My name is Francois du Toit. I am 39 years old and live in Johannesburg, South Africa, with my wife and four children. I am self employed, work from home and have a wonderful life. But it wasn’t always like this…
I spent the best part of my adult life in the corporate world chasing the proverbial pot of gold at the end of the rainbow without even realizing that I was caught up in a downward spiralling rat race. I worked nearly all the time and when I wasn’t travelling on business in South Africa I was away on business abroad. My two eldest daughters grew up without seeing much of their dad and it became a habit for them not to even set a place for me at the dinner table.
To the outside world I was a successful business man but on the inside I felt empty, unfulfilled and out of balance. I finally got a wake up call about four years ago…
I was sitting on a plane and while we were taxiing down the runway for takeoff I suffered a panic attack. I had problems breathing, felt claustrophobic and thought I was having a heart attack. I was terrified! I knew something had to change… I could not carry on living the live I was living.
It was some time after this incident that I discovered meditation. At first I was very sceptical. I thought it was all about burning incense, lighting candles and sitting with crossed legs on the floor for hours at a time while chanting some Eastern incantations. I was wrong…
I discovered that meditation has got nothing to do with religion and that I could benefit from it by meditating for as little as 15 minutes a day while lying down in a comfortable position. And, the benefits of meditating blew me away! Within a short period of time I managed to significantly reduce my stress and anxiety levels and restore my inner balance. For the first time in years I really started feeling fulfilled!
I realized that millions of people can really benefit from meditation but have limiting beliefs about it and are not sure how to meditate. With this in mind I decided to start this website called How To Meditate For Beginners. It is my sincere wish to reach and help as many people as possible.
I will try to post helpful articles on a regular basis and will appreciate it if you can help me spread the word by referring others to this site. Please let me know if you have any questions, comments, suggestions on how this site can be improved or if you want me to write an article on a specific topic.
